CARES ACT

Who should I contact with questions regarding the CARES Act Grant?

Students with questions about this process may contact the Financial Aid Office at:

What is CARES Act?

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act was passed by Congress and signed into law to provide economic relief from COVID-19. One section of the CARES Act established the Higher Education Emergency Relief fund and sent money to schools to use for emergency financial aid grants to students for expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to the pandemic.

How much money did CTA receive?

CTA has submitted the required certification and agreements to receive $255,559.00. CTA will allocate 50% of the received funds to provide direct emergency grants to students. Students must meet specific eligibility requirements outlined by the CARES Act.

Who is eligible to receive the grant?

  • You must be currently enrolled as either a full- or part-time student.
  • You must be Title IV aid eligible (a FAFSA must be filled out).
  • It is only available for U.S. citizens or eligible noncitizens.
  • You must have a valid Social Security Number.
  • If you are male and age 18 or older, you must be registered with Selective Service.
  • You must show satisfactory academic progress.
  • You must have either a High School Diploma or GED.

How will I know if I am eligible?

Students who have been awarded the CARES Grant will be notified to their student email. They must accept their award, and then funds will be disbursed and sent to the student by check.

Can I still apply for the grant?

Students who have not filled out the FAFSA or whose financial situation has changed can still apply for the grant. Funds will be disbursed first-come, first-serve until the funds run out. The federal government has specified that undocumented and international students are not eligible for CARES Act funds. Contact the Financial Aid Officer to receive the application.

Do students have limitations on how they can spend the money?

The U.S. Department of Education is providing funds for the sole and exclusive purpose of providing emergency financial aid grants to students for their expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus, such as food, housing, course materials, technology, health care and child-care expenses.
