What Is The FSA ID?

  • The FSA ID is a Federal Student Aid Identification.  The user’s name, date of birth and Social Security Number are verified by the Social Security Administration.  Thereafter, the user can use the FSA ID to electronically sign documents when applying for federal student aid and monitor loans during school and after leaving.
  • Federal student aid recipients must have an FSA ID.
  • Your FSA ID is the same at any school you attend for the rest of your life.

Why Do I Need An FSA ID?

  • As a student, you can:
  • Electronically sign the FAFSA
  • Electronically sign the Direct Loan MPN (Master Promissory Note)
  • Complete Loan Entrance Counseling.
  • Complete Loan Exit Counseling.
  • Access your financial aid and enrollment history on NSLDS (National Student Loan Data System).
  • If you are the parent of a dependent student you must sign-up for you own FSA ID.  The parent of a dependent student can:

  • Electronically sign the FAFSA.
  • Electronically sign the Parent PLUS Loan Application and MPN (Master Promissory Note).
  • Complete parent PLUS Loan borrower loan counseling, if required.

You may not share your FSA ID with anyone.  Your FSA ID is your electronic signature, so it has to be unique to you and private.

When Does My FSA ID Expire?

  • Your username does not expire
  • Your FSA ID password will expire every 18 months unless you change it.

How Do I Get An FSA ID?

    • You can create an FSA ID following the instructions below.
    • You will receive an email with the confirmed FSA ID within three days, after your name, date of birth, and social security number is verified by the Social Security Administration.
    • You can also create the FSA ID when completing the FAFSA.
    • While you will be able to sign the FAFSA immediately with the FSA ID, you will need to wait three days before the FSA ID can be used to complete the MPN (Master Promissory Note) if you are borrowing a loan.

How Do I Create An FSA ID?

    1. https://studentaid.gov/ and click “Create Account”
    2. Complete the fields following the online instructions and help.
  • In a two to three days, you will receive an email message confirming your FSA ID.
